According to wikipedia, hotspot differs in its meaning and interpretation dependent on the context with which it is associated. For laptop users, seeing these words or a related symbol means that WiFi is available for connecting to the Internet. In an economic context, it describes an area of rapid economic growth.

Last Monday we had a snow day when our university was shut down due to lack of power and heat — Vancouver doesn’t do snow. Our residence assistant (RA) realised that it was very cold in Green College without heat in our rooms and she went around placing sticky notes on doors which had fireplaces and thus were warm.

In this context hotspot = warm room.

Relevance: Interesting how I always associate hotspot with WiFi availability as I have a laptop and I wondering the degree to which other people do the same now.
